Schedule - Additional Comments

Tournament Check-In:

Sunday afternoon for all events: 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

  • Student Life Pavilion Patio (Also known as Plaza Major. This is the first place on campus that you will see when walking toward campus from the East Parking Structure.)

  • We encourage as many students as possible to Check-In at this time. This will alleviate much of the rush on Monday morning and allow you some time to familiarize yourself with the campus.

  • The time for this Check-In has changed from what was originally posted because the University is holding graduation ceremonies on Sunday and we are not being given access to the campus until 6:00 pm. We will be outside, so we plan to wrap up while there is still time to clean up before the sun sets and it gets dark.

  • Extemp students will have access to Hahn School of Nursing Room 106, the Extemp Prep room during this time. You may drop off you Extemp boxes on Sunday evening to save time on Monday morning.

Monday morning for all events: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
The 11:00 am time will be a firm cut off for all Individual Event students. This is necessary to allow Tab to set up the events and check for seeding priorities.

Speech Schedule:

Three rounds of Individual Events separated into Pattern A and Pattern B. The large events (Apologetics, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous, Impromptu, Open Interpretation, and Original Oratory) will proceed to Quarterfinals. All events will advance to Semifinals and Finals.

Debate Schedule:

Six preliminary rounds. All teams with a winning record (4 - 2 or better) will advance to outrounds. The Stoa Board has approved filling entire Double Octofinal bracket to allow Double Eliminations to occur from the first outround. (With only a partial round, there are too many weird bye situations to contend with.) Yes, that means the top 3-3 teams will advance to outrounds. The tournament will utilize the same seeding methodology as previously set forth, e.g. Stoa Seedings.

Lincoln Douglas Debate

LD debates will be flighted during prelim rounds. This means one-half of the debates will occur during the first half of the Debate Pattern (Flight A) and the other one-half of the debates will occur during the second half of the Debate Pattern (Flight B).

It is important to note that LD students will time each other.

All LD debaters are expected to attend the entire round for both debates. Debaters in Flight B will time the Flight A debate and debaters in Flight A will time the Flight B debate. Both Flight B students are expected to be present throughout the Flight A debate regardless of which student ends up timing the debate.

If a Flight B student is not in attendance for the Flight A debate, the student will forfeit the round. The same will be true for Flight A students not in attendance during the Flight B round. (The Flight A students may decide among themselves who will time the Flight B debate. One student may excuse the other, but if both are not in agreement, then it is expected that both will stay for the entire Flight B debate.)
